2015 Riesling CSV, Beamsville Bench – Rated 93
CSV stands for Cave Spring Vineyard, one of the oldest plantings of riesling in Ontario, dating to the 1970s. Planted on limestone-rich clay over shale and limestone, the vineyard has put in one of its best performances through a challenging year, weathering a bitterly cold winter and a long, wet spring, a dry July and cloudbursts in October. The wine is as dry as stone yet meaty in texture, packed with dense, pithy citrus fruit flavors and grapeskin spice. Tightly wrapped, it needs time to unwind; cellar it for another five years while enjoying the 2014.

2014 Riesling CSV, Beamsville Bench – Rated 91
A long, cool vintage created a fine-boned, pretty version of Cave Spring’s CSV, a selection of the oldest wines in the Cave Spring Vineyard. It feels fresh and clean, with an almost minty scent and a lime-zest zing. There’s also a sense of minerality, quartz-like in its clarity, which
keeps the wine lasting long.

2014 Riesling Icewine, Niagara Peninsula – Rated 90
Harvested in early January, this icewine feels sunny and bright, with honeysuckle scents and gingery spice that keep it fresh despite the considerable sweetness. (It weighs in at 202 grams per liter of residual sugar, and 11.5 grams of acidity.) Pour it with something creamy, like crème caramel.
